Welcome to another edition of the Michels Warren e-newsletter!
The announcement by Mitsubishi that it is to close its local manufacturing operations was naturally a huge news day both in Adelaide and around Australia.

However, some quick work meant it was also a big news day for one of our national clients, The Salvation Army Employment Plus, which is Australia’s largest Job Network provider, putting around 1000 people into work every week.
Michels Warren worked with Employment Plus management in Melbourne to orchestrate a positive media response immediately following the Mitsubishi announcement because we knew the nation’s media would need a quick snapshot of the future for retrenched Mitsubishi workers.

Our message was simple – that the local economy was buoyant, Mitsubishi workers would be in high demand and Employment Plus was the pre-eminent Job Network agency for employers and candidates alike.

Our quick work on the day and follow-up releases ensured we were able to generate three days of positive national coverage – including The Australian, ABC AM, The Australian Financial Review and more – and, more importantly, the phones ran hot at Employment Plus.

National first for Bedford

Our great friends at Bedford – South Australia’s largest provider of disability services – recently celebrated the achievements of more than 200 people with a disability at the largest ever graduation ceremony of its kind.

The $1m ‘Abilities for All’ program is led by Bedford and the State Government’s Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST) through TAFE SA and the South Australia Works initiative.

We worked with Bedford to get some great media coverage of the event - but even without the cameras, it was a hugely uplifting and emotional day, particularly for the families and friends of those graduating.

Video hits

Our video production team has been hard at work for a range of clients including Monroe and Bridgestone.

We worked with Monroe to produce a stakeholder launch video for the company’s innovative new Just Drive marketing campaign. The shoot involved some high-speed car-to-car vision shot around the Adelaide Hills where we tried not to enjoy ourselves too much.

We’ve also recently produced a range of videos for Bridgestone, including a five-minute program celebrating the winner of Bridgestone’s prestigious National MasterClass Award. If you like the BBC program Top Gear, there’s a fair chance you’ll like this video. Feel free to drop in for a look (the popcorn’s on us).

International activity for ChinaShop
Our design division – ChinaShop – has been busy turning out some great creative for clients such as Mercury Marine, Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation, OneSteel and ASC.

We’ve even been working on international creative for AquaSpy, which is a leading Adelaide-based water management specialist with technology who take the guesswork out of managing our most precious natural resource. They’ve kindly allowed us to show off a couple of our favourite creative executions from their latest international marketing campaign.

We're delighted to welcome Natasha Wade to Michels Warren as our newest Account Coordinator. Tash holds a journalism degree and has great personal and writing skills. So, we're very lucky to have her. She’s also a demon netball coach, which may come in handy one day.......Welcome Tash!

Media training update

As ever, the Michels Warren team has been busy lately delivering media training workshops to leading organisations including Telstra Bigpond (with colleague Mike O’Reilly), Australian Central Credit Union and Wendy’s.

Key to our strength is the huge experience of our training team which includes ex-journalists with backgrounds at The Australian, BSkyB, Channel 7, ABC TV and the Wesgo radio network among others. Our sessions are very ‘real world’ and so intense, confronting and thoroughly enjoyable.

Look out Lewis Hamilton...here comes Tom!
Adelaide driver Tom Drewer has made the perfect start to his IMSA Lites racing career in the USA by winning his category at the famous 56th Annual 12 Hours of Sebring.

So why do we care? Well, Michels Warren and ChinaShop are proud to be one of the sponsors on Tom’s PVM Racing WEST WR1000 car for his first foray into racing in the States. And he’s also the nephew of Daryl Warren, one of the founders of Michels Warren – so there’s a nice family connection as well.

We’ll be keeping you up to date with Tom’s career through our e-newsletter.
